  About the chapter:

This chapter presents a beautiful collage of stories starting with the birth of John after his father Zachariah reached old age, progressing to the miraculous birth of Jesus, son of Mary, to the admonishment of Abraham to his father who was devoted to idols, to Moses who brought near for private conversation with his Lord, and finishing with a mention of Ishmael and Idris (May Allah's peace and blessing be upon all of them).  The overarching theme is the oneness of the monotheistic message of all the prophets who called theirs people to submit wholly to Allah.  Verse 58 says:  "These are the ones to whom Allah showed favor from among the prophets, of the seed of Adam, and of those whom we carried in the ship with Noah, and of the seed of Abraham and Israel, and from among those whom we have guided and chose.  When the revelations of the Most Compassionate were recited to them, they fell down prostrating and weeping."

  Snippets from the translation:

And man says: “When I am dead, will I be brought forth to life again?” Doesn’t man remember that we created him before when he was nothing? By your Lord, verily We will assemble them and the devils, then We will bring them crouching around hell. Then we will pluck out from every sect whichever of them was most stubborn in rebellion against the Beneficent. And surely we are best aware of those most worthy to be burned therein. None of you will escape approaching it. That is a fixed ordinance of your Lord. Then We will rescue those who guarded against evil, and We will leave the evil doers crouching therein.  [chapter 19:  66-72]
